The end of my College Application Season: UCSB or UNC?

Image
Application season is the most important time period for every high school student as they move toward college. Throughout this application process, high school students have the opportunity to reflect on themselves and show others who they really are. But at the same time, application season comes with anxiety. And now my 23 fall application season is finally over! I applied to a total of 25 US colleges. I was accepted to 10 of them, rejected by 11, and waitlisted by 4. I was accepted by the University of Wisconsin Madison, The Ohio State, The University of Minnesota Twin Cities, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Riverside, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Boston University, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  And I was rejected by Cornell, the University of Chicago, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, Brown, Rochester, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Pennsylvania, Texas Austin, University of Northwestern.  I got waitlists from Washington St.Louis, New York U...

Ski Trip: snowboarding at Powder Mountain with my friends

Image
Last Thursday I went snowboarding at Powder Mountain with my friend. I came to Power Mountain last year, but I was skiing rather than snowboarding.  I barely learned to ski last year, but after learning to snowboard this year, I felt that the views I saw on the mountain were different. Gliding freely through the mountain, I put my snowboard straight and all I could hear was the whistling wind. There are two ski areas at Power Mountain, one on the other mountain. We took the lift up the mountain 7 times at the first ski resort and we experienced different levels of piste.  At one point we embarked on a very flat route without any slope. That's when it became difficult to move my snowboard forward and I had to unload it. Then my friend and I decided to slide down the black snow track. To my surprise, we got lost in the woods. Our snowboards were touching the soft white snow, and a pile of snow would cave in if we were not careful. Then we had enough of the first ski area an...

The Heart of Genius: how can ordinary people actually catch up with geniuses?

Image
I've been sick again for the last few days and feel like there aren't any adults around who care if I don't feel well. I also think school is really boring. So I didn't come to school on Friday, I was at home watching a drama that aired in 2022, a drama that tells the inspiring story of Lin Chao Xi and Pei Zhi as they travel through two parallel worlds many times and face challenges head on. One of the main plots inside is that the heroine, Lin Chaoxi, has always had a love for mathematics, but gave it up because she felt she didn't have enough talent. After crossing over to the parallel world, Lin Chao Xi gradually found her love for mathematics and decided to return to her original world and plan to take a graduate degree in mathematics.  The play is based on a novel, and I was very moved by its plot of it. As I grew up, I often felt like Lin Chao Xi that I was incapable of studying my favorite subject because of my mediocre talent. It was like an ordinary person ...

Identity V: Introduction + Strategies

Image
As someone who hasn't played many games since I was a kid, I've never actually had a particular interest in games. I've only used single-player mini-games to consume time but have never been keen on a multiplayer online game. Although I've always thought I wasn't very good at playing video games, that's probably because I haven't tried them.  So this week I started playing a game called Identity V. This game is a survival game with some horror elements, and there are two camps in the game, one for the regulators and one for the survivors. There are four survivors and one supervisor in a match. Survivors must repair all 5 cryptographs to open the escape door, and the regulator must eliminate 3 or more survivors to win. The way many young people communicate today is by playing games together, so I hope I can improve my skills by practicing so that I will be more likely to become friends with more people by playing games in the future. It is important for new...

Doppo Kunikida:My ideal will never fall

Image
Recently I watched a very good manga called Bungo Stray Dogs (文豪ストレイドッグス). One of the characters who attracted me deeply, he is Kunikida Doppo. His insistence on his own ideals and his insistence on kindness in his heart make me want to be like him. For this reason, I created this account, where I will record my ideals and the process of fighting for my ideals. I wish I could be the best version of myself like Kunikida Doppo.  "What is the ideal? There are countless answers to this question. If anything, it is language, thought, and the root of all meaning. If you let me say it, the answer is very clear. That's what's written on the cover of my notepad.  My notepad is omnipotent. It guides me as a guide, as a sovereign, as a prophet. And it can sometimes be a weapon or a key. ideal. Everything about me is written on that notepad. The notepad that I carry with me at all times is my future. From recipes for dinner to moving plans in five years. From tomorrow's work con...
